Herbs as a Nutritious food

Did you ever notice that herbs that breed around us contain nutritious which provides us
a healthy source of food? If you have lack of info, then lets we shared the knowledge & benefits from the plant. Pennywort is one of the examples that commonly used by people
around the world (especially South East Asia) as a additional nutritious herbs in their meals.

Pennywort

Pennywort usually growth in the continent of Asia & East Africa most likely in India, Sri Lanka & Madagascar. Its then broaden to South East Asia such as Malaysia, Pakistan, China, Japan, West Indies, South America and Australia. This plant rapidly growth in wet area that close to water sources (riverside). Most of these species growth within open area; nevertheless some of them did need moderate covered.They growth widely on earth surface with roots within its trunk. Its brain shapes leaves divided into smooth or serrated surfaces at its end with 3 to 5 cm wide. While its trunk can grow up to 15cm depends on its cultivar’s, fertility & density. It has 3 to 4 flowers with white or pink petal.
It also has flat fruits with 3mm like chili seeds. There are actually 3 types of pennywort; Centella asiatica, Merremia emarginata and Hydrocotyle spp. The Centella asiatica species were known better because of its medicinal benefits and had always used as remedies to various health problems.

Pennywort contains a variety of active substance such as triterpenoid glycosides (especially asiaticosida, Asiatic, Madecassic and madicassosida), flavenoids (Caemferol and quercetin), volatile oils (vallerin, camphor, cineole and plant sterols such campesterol, stigmasterol and sitosterol), pekyin, amino acid, alkaloid hydrocotyline, myositol, bramic acid, centellic, isobrahmic and betulic acid. In Asia especially Malaysia, pennywort are widely used as mind refreshing tonic, juice drink to chill body temperature or even eaten freshly with rice or any meals.
