Herbs - History

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word derived from two roots: Ayur means life;d Veda which means knowledge. It has its roots in ancient vedic literature. Ayurveda, a system of diet, healing and health maintenance is probably the oldest science of life, just like Yoga practices.

Herbs - Acupunture

Herbalism, acupuncture, psychic healing, aromatherapy, touch therapy and massage therapy can all work with orthodox treatments to create a healthy body for both man and woman.

Acupuncture and acupressure are two non-drug therapies which are making their presence felt in the complementary medicine scene. Acupressure and reflexology are getting crowd because of ease of practice.

Herbs History

In the 17th century, the development of science, chemistry and technology together with the introduction of active chemical drugs led to the decline of herbalism, even though folk medicine still existed in the home and small villages. By the end of the 19th and into the 20th centuries, orthodox medicine had pushed homeopathic ( a complementary disease treatment system in which a patient is given minute doses of natural drugs that in larger doses would produce symptoms of the disease itself ) medicine further from the mainstream.

Herbs History

Herbs have been used and studied since prehistoric mankind. 5000 years ago, the Sumerians kept the first written record of herbs usage. In 2700 B.C., the Chinese wrote their first herbs book listing over 365 medicinal herb plants with their benefits and uses. Herbs were also mentioned in the medicinal practices and the Old Testament of ancient Greeks and Romans rose from herbalism. While the first European book on herbs dates from the first century A.D which refers to more than 500 herbal plants.
